Speaking the truth is important to God – so important that “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor,” is the ninth commandment God gave to His people – right along with those other commandments we consider “biggies” – “You shall not murder ... You shall not commit adultery ... You shall not steal.”
Even so, in this day and age we are in a crisis of truth. The discussion of what is “truth” and what is “fake” is a common topic today. People read something in the news or social media and jump to conclusions about its veracity based on who wrote it, how many people believe it and who it is about.
As Christians, we must refuse to take part in lies in any form or matter. Not only should we refuse to fall into the temptation of lying – no matter the circumstances – we must learn to recognize lies and re-fuse to empower liars. I spent many hours researching this course, How to Spot the Liar (bibliography is at the end). I found it to be very enlightening – and so will you.
